Notes

In 2012, a news app must have the fluidity that allows for frequent updates and links to the newspaper’s website, but it is also extremely important that it shows its Tablet (yes, with a capital letter) side with pop ups and non linear methods of telling stories. In the case of the two apps discussed here, The Daily and The New York Times, although neither is perfect, I gravitate daily to the Times, where I hit the Refresh button and know that I am going to be as well informed and current as anyone can be. Perhaps most news app readers are like me: we would like the best of both, the fluidity and reassurance that news updates give us, but also the excitement of those pop ups that we come to expect the day we buy an iPad.
